Happy to hear some rough cuts from this veteran hip-hop group. Mellow Drum Addict (several times, I hear him called Phat Hentoff) says he feels as though it is their most organically-created product yet because it came together with ease, has increased amount of D.J. cuts, and sounds good. I was listening to one of his verses about paying dues, and, appreciating the voices - I.B. (Philadelphia) has a very deep one in many ways - asked about who else was on album. I learned of their goal of having a different producer, and a different third member, for each album. June (Queens) rapping, and Theory Hazit is producer (Portland). This two-month effort will be ready for distribution soon. They're sending it over to England in hopes of a vinyl edition. Once album is out, then maybe we will see them schedule a few performances, but everybody does have their own way of creating.
Out of the three new songs released by The Strokes, I like Threat Of Joy. It is most reminiscent of their first album, and the vocals have quality of determination that inspires. Number two: Drag Queen has a Joy Division-like bass introduction, and more interesting vocal alterations by Julian Casablancas. And the bronze: precision-to-the-degree-of-electronic-sounding rhythm guitar by Albert Hammond, Jr., a bleeding heart chorus, and response from lead guitarist Nick Valensi The Future Present Past EP, a precursor to album of the year?
To me, this film is about the triumph of royal offspring, and the struggle of their parents. It contains graphic images, sometimes like paintings that could be hung on my walls, such as the princess perched in a rock nest. At end, the three stories unite with a crowning of new queen - the perfect denouement. We're all royal in our own way, and we struggle, whether it be with sex, like the king, with control, similar to the queen, or with powers that be, the way princess does. Whatever problem it is, face it with love. Prediction: look for Bebe Cave to star in more fine films. See this film at Zoetropolis if you can - they've an inviting atmosphere and great club opportunity.
